My Favorite Christmas Movies & TV Episodes

Every year I have a list of movies & TV episodes I have to watch in order for it to feel like Christmas. I watched a few of these the past few days while I was at home sick. Nothing makes me feel better than the warm and fuzzy feeling of the holidays.

Best Christmas Movies & TV Episodes

1) Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

The original claymation with Burl Ives is my favorite Christmas movie. It reminds me of my childhood and I just love the claymation look of it. Hermey the Elf is my favorite character.

2) Christmas Flintstone

I grew up watching the Flintstones, the Jetsons and Scooby Doo. I love all those Hanna Barbera episodes from back in the day. You can buy a variety of the old Christmas episodes on Amazon Video.

3) Love Actually

Probably the most cliché on my list, but I do love Love Actually. Funny and sad at the same time, all of the different stories feel like they could be real stories about humans during the holidays.

4) While You Were Sleeping

I don’t know if this is technically a Christmas movie, but While You Were Sleeping is one of those films I discovered when I was a teenager and still enjoy today. Sandra Bullock plays a transit worker who saves the life of a man she has a crush on, on Christmas Day, and while he is in a coma is mistaken for his fiancée. A feel-good movie about family and wanting to belong, it’s still one of my favorite movies to watch this time of year. It’s available on Netflix

5) A Christmas Story

Yup, this movie is on my list. My family used to put on the 24 hour marathon when I was a teenager, on Christmas Day, and my brother and I would hang out in the living room snacking on cured meats and cheese after we opened presents. “You’ll shoot your eye out!”

6) Seinfeld – The Strike

A Festivus for the rest of us. Need I say more?

7) Flintstone Christmas Carol

Another one you can buy on Amazon, Flintstone Christmas carol is another classic cartoon with a holiday theme that I must watch.

8) Doctor Who Christmas Specials

Of course Doctor Who makes my list. Science-fiction and Christmas? Yes please. There are a number of Who specials, but I recommend you watch the series as they all tie in with the overall story arc of the series. My favorite 3 specials are Last Christmas, The Christmas Invasion, and The Time of the Doctor.

9) Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.  I prefer the cartoon version, not the live action one. Narrated by Boris Karloff, it’s an instant Christmas Classic.

10) The Nightmare Before Christmas

What’s this?! Jack Skellington kidnaps Santa Claus and chaos ensues. My coworkers and I used to argue about whether or not this was a Christmas or Halloween movie. I can’t remember what we decided but I watch it at Christmas.

11) National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

The Griswold family Christmas goes awry and hilarity ensues. One of the more sillier holiday movies (but honestly that’s expected with Chevy Chase.

This is a short list of my favorite movies to watch this time of year. What are your favorite holiday movies?
