The Essential Autumn Cocktail: Maple Bourbon Apple Cider

Around late September, when the real apple cider starts lining the grocery store’s shelves, it means one thing for this household: it’s officially maple bourbon apple cider season and let me tell you, this recipe is dangerously delicious.

*This post is not sponsored by Maker’s Mark. It’s just the preferred whisky my partner & I regularly purchase.

I made this recipe a few years ago when I hosted some girlfriends at our last apartment. We had an Outlander marathon…or tried to anyway. By episode 5 we were all getting super sleepy and I’m sure it had nothing to do with the bourbon drinks I made.

You may be wondering why I said this was dangerously delicious? Well, you can’t taste the bourbon, and if you can taste it, you’ve got far too much in your glass. Either way, it’s best to sip this if you have to drive anywhere.

One of my essential tips for this recipe: don’t skimp on the quality of maple syrup. This year I’ve been using this Woodinville Whiskey barrel aged maple syrup and it adds a little smokiness to the flavor.

Maple Bourbon Apple Cider Recipe:

8oz Apple Cider

4oz Bourbon (or amount to your taste)

1-2 Tbsp Maple Syrup

2 Teaspoon Lemon Juice

Optional:

Garnish with cinnamon stick & apple slice

  1. Pour maple syrup in glass, followed by bourbon, lemon juice, then apple cider.
  2. Stir
  3. Add ice if desired
  4. Garnish with cinnamon stick & apple slice
  5. Enjoy!

My partner and I have gotten to a point where we know the general ratio of liquids & maple syrup we each like so we tend to not measure things out any more.  If the bourbon is too strong for you, add a bit more apple cider and lemon juice and it will help to mask the taste.

What are your go to seasonal drinks? What marks the start of autumn in your home?

xx
Steph
