Outfit: Breaking the Rules In White After Labor Day

Have you ever caught yourself telling yourself you can’t do [whatever example here] because of [some silly rule here]? I did the other day and it made me stop and think.

There’s that rule, that I honestly have no idea how it started: no white after labor day.

I had just purchased a flowy top from Nordstrom that was plaid, but subtly plaid in that it’s mostly white with thin dark blue lines. I was rummaging through my closet when I reached for the top I had purchased. “But it’s after Labor Day!” A tiny voice in the back of my head cried.

And I paused…then I paused a minute longer. “Why shouldn’t I wear the bloody hell what I want to?” that same little voice huffed back. Who cares as long as I’m wearing what I want to wear. It’s about what you feel comfortable in and nothing else. There are mornings where I roll out of bed into some black jeans and a Doctor Who t-shirt (I have many), and remind myself that everyday doesn’t have to be a unique outfit combo and that I should be dressing for myself, no one else, and that should be all that matters.

I’ve always struggled with being the quiet one who is a little bit weird and not one of the girly girls. In moments where I find myself questioning why I want to purchase a certain piece of clothing or an accessory, it’s usually because I’ve seen all the other bloggers with it. That’s when I close my browser window and remind myself, it’s me and my funkyness that makes me unique. Just do you and you’ll feel so much more content with yourself.

However, this doesn’t mean I’m still not eyeing a Gucci bag and…and maybe a belt. Gucci’s style game has been on point lately with some timeless pieces that polish a look. Please….get in my closet ASAP.

xx,
Steph
