Spring But Dark

Last June I was wandering through Spitalfields in London checking out the various vintage & upcycled clothing shops when I descended down a few steps into The Vintage Market on Brick Lane. What I came upon was a vast underground market of individual booths full of so many different kinds of vintage clothing.

This was not like Goodwill or Value Village, this was legitimately so-called “vintage” clothing, and as I perused the racks found myself fulfilling a dream of mine: I was perusing real vintage Burberry. There were the occasional other Designer pieces but I kept finding racks of vintage Burberry trench coats. They were all far too large for me but I had stumbled on a gold mine.

I ended up picking up some vintage polyester tops. I found one delightfully horrid orange 70s paisley top that I knew I had to have along with a few toned down ones. This burgundy cross patterned top reminded me so much of Depeche Mode and the 80s, I snatched it up.

I’m a funny person about clothes though, sometimes I’ll buy pieces and it will take me months to wear them. I’m not sure why that is, but it’s like I have to be in the right mindset for some of the pieces I’ve bought. I’d pulled this out of my closet before but would put it back.

With spring creeping up I pulled it out and paired it with my Jeffrey Campbell boots. I think I was just waiting for the right pair of boots to wear with the top because these two pieces seem like they were made for each other.

Happy Easter if you celebrate it. I’ll be celebrating Ostara late with my favorite group of humans today: drinking, egg hunts and lots of good food.
