2016 Year in Review & Looking Forward

2016 has by all means been somewhat of an awful year. We lost so many inspirational people who influenced many generations; globally I don’t even want to get into it, it’s been rather dark. Usually I go through every month in my year in review posts but this year, that just seems exhausting. 75% of my year was planning a wedding.

Personally, it’s all been exhausting & exciting.

I joined the Microsoft Edge team as a designer in March, embarking on a brand new adventure in my career.

I started going to pure barre classes and have continued to stick with it.

After 9 years together Ryan & I were married in what can only be described as a festival with close friends & family that involved a marriage ceremony. See my post about it here.

Other highlights were the usual festival trips, Hawaii again, visiting my family who now live in Arizona, my brother getting into med school at Georgetown, meeting Trevor Noah, and in general having the best group of friends anyone could ask for.

My calendar for 2017 is already packed full with many adventures. Vegas, Whistler, England, Scotland. Hawaii isn’t happening this year though we’ll see how long it takes before I get through January and decide I’m going down for a weekend of sunshine.

Buying a home is at the top of our priority list. I am so sick of apartment living/renting, and this feeling has only been fueled by a deep dislike of the company that took over our apartment complex.

For personal goals, I’ve tried to keep it simple.

This last year I wanted to start reading a lot again. My goal was to read 12 books. I read 19. Bumping that number this year to 20.

Continue to go to pure barre classes. My goal is 8 times a month. That is the bare minimum number of classes I should be attending to make my monthly pass worth it.

Personal finance. In the last year I’ve focused on savings & paying down credit card debt. This continues to be at the forefront of my mind. I have always been a spender and this year I would like to buy less and focus on reaching some more finance goals. Sticking to the budget is a big one.

I’d like to blog more now that I’m not planning a wedding. I’ve been trying to ramp this up since October and even before I was engaged, I wasn’t putting as much time into my blog.

Keep hand-lettering, a skill I accidentally acquired while DIYing our wedding signs.

Learn about medicinal herbs & home remedies. This is partly inspired by Outlander’s Claire character, but I also wish I had some sort of skill for survival. Ryan & I watch a lot of survival and homesteading shows, and knowing that I have no real skill in anything like that has prompted me to want to learn about plants and their different uses. Hopefully we’ll purchase a home this year, and our goal is to have a greenhouse & garden.

Take kick-ass photos with my new camera. Ryan purchased me a DSLR for Christmas and I am super excited to use it. I’ve been reading up on settings & whatnot. Again. Super excited.

That’s all I have for 2016 folks. What are your goals for next year? Let me know below and have a safe and fun New Year!
