Summer Meltdown

Where is this year going? I feel like I’ve been saying the same thing for the past 3 years. I can’t believe it’s August already. I love August though. I can always sense a change in the air, summer is still present but I can feel autumn creeping in, and I adore it. We  celebrated the meltdown of summer by heading to Darrington, WA last weekend, camping, and rocking out to music at Summer Meltdown Festival.  Nothing beats a small festival. I’m officially hooked again. A good group of our friends were there, there were good vibes all around, good music & river floating. And of course, I saw Slow Magic again, and was right smack in the middle of his drum circle when he got off the stage. I touched him, I was that close. So my happy self danced back to the tent and collapsed. It was a wonderfully adventurous weekend & we made new friends who live in the Seattle area. I can’t wait for next year! Cream on Chrome // PNW Summers

Summer is here & I am haaaaappy. Sometimes I think I live in the wrong state & that I really belong on a beach in Hawaii. But I love the mountains, the forest & the fog of the pacific northwest and when it’s 75 degrees and sunny, Seattle is the definition of perfection. But as I’m anxiously awaiting the summer days, one thing becomes blazingly clear. My closet is mostly full of items that would make more sense if I lived in Southern California. So when we hit that first day of beautiful weather, you can bet that I’m in a brightly colored skirt, sleeveless top and sandals, sitting in the park in Bellevue on my lunch break, tweeting to my manager that I might not come back to work. I wouldn’t trade my summertime in the pacific northwest for anywhere else. You can find me in Hawaii in January, Phoenix in November & December. I’ll be everywhere else but here during the winter. But there is very little reason to leave this beautiful place from May-September. Not a queen, a Khaleesi

Another month, another hair cut, another color change. Last December my stylist convinced me to just go all the way and get an undercut. She took the clippers and shaved off inches of hair on the right side of my head. My heart fluttered, my eyes got wide for a moment, and then when she finished and went to go mix up my purple color I turned my head to the side. Damn. DAMN. And I realized I would actually look pretty ok if I shaved my head. I’m not THAT adventurous with this ol’ head of hair, but it was a reassuring realization. After a fresh coat of dazzling purple was applied, and the rest all trimmed off, I left feeling like a motherfucking shield maiden. Like Lagertha in Vikings. I felt badass. And I still do. With Game of Thrones starting, of course I’m envious of Daenerys’ badass outfits and Sansa’s jewelry. So Yesterday I was walking around feeling fierce with my gold necklace & undercut. All About That Cuff (Bracelet)

So here we are, halfway through February already! The beginning of the year feels so far away, when I was sipping cocktails in sunny Kona & soaking up all the sun I could get. But that seems ages away & is not why I’m posting today. Lately I’ve been feeling fierce. Is it the undercut I finally let my hair stylist do? I do feel like a motherfreaking Shield Maiden with it, and I’ve been binging on the TV show Vikings, so I would venture to guess yes, it is the undercut. But with a fierce haircut must come fierce accessories, and I’ve been drooling over chunky, arm engulfing cuff bracelets. Yes! I’m petite & small, but I love fat, chunky jewelry and these cuffs I’ve been looking at are literally ARMor (get it? I’m funny, I swear.) The holy grail (my holy grail anyway) of these pieces is the Pamela Love Pentagram bracelet. One way or another I will get it at some point during this year. I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s geometrically beautiful. I need it. But for now I’m building my collection with some fun vintage pieces I found on eBay, which I’ll share when…

It’s Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas

After a trip to Ikea last weekend, our townhome is starting to feel a little more put together. We purchased some shelving and book cases so we could de-clutter our counters. It’s starting to look less like a college student’s apartment. With our newly added space, I now have space to make things more festive. I love the Holidays, and I can’t wait to add some more decorations to the house. For now, I’m dreaming of snow, hot cocoa, and holiday parties.…

Keeping Cozy

I received this amazingly cozy fleece North Face jacket from GigaSaavy the other day, and the timing could not have been more perfect. I had my tonsils out on Wednesday and was told to dress cozy. I don’t have very many in between items when it comes to my coat and sweatshirt collection. It’s either heavy duty or extremely light fabric. This fleece was just the perfect in between for me. I was able to wear this while I waited at the surgery center and never got too hot or too cold. I could easily go from outside to indoors without feeling a drastic change. I love to be cozy, and living in the rainy northwest, you certainly have days where the gloom and doom of the grey skies during fall and winter just makes you want to be in a cozy outfit without looking like you’re in your pajamas. I have been living in this fleece the past few days as I mope around the house. I haven’t had to turn up the heat, which I’m notorious for doing, while I wear this jacket around the house. The Final Shows – LA Style Fashion Week – Bri Seeley & Lina Zeineddine

The Nickel Diner, a bustling little joint that had good food. Backstage One of the other designers, Patuna Bushyhead. Her collection was simply stunning, flow, ethereal gowns with jewels. Finally Bri Seeley & Lina Zeineddine shoes on the runway! Bri’s collection has been picked up by Zappos & will be available sometime next year! It was a great week for these two designers. JHaus I left after the first round of shows so I could get back to Beverly Hills and get packed since I had to be up early to catch a flight to Chicago. I ordered room service and enjoyed a relaxing evening before heading off on another, short but much anticipated, trip.…

Los Angeles Style Fashion Week Part 2 – Louis Verdad and Dar Sara

Louis Verdad Check out more of Louis Verdad here Dar Sara The Dar Sara show was absolutely amazing. Sponsored by Swarovski, the pieces were dripping in crystals. The intricacy of each piece was absolutely amazing. The show started with a “fight” between two models in what resembled chain mail. It was Haute Couture chain mail. A model walked the runway after the two sparring models left the stage, playing the violin. Again, stunning. The rest of the show began and had viewers jumping up to take pictures. It created such an energy, everyone could tell how unique this show was. The energy from the crowd was tangible. It was truly innovative and inspiring. Style Fashion Week – Los Angeles – Part 1

Our Closet – Prep for the Week The first evening & following day in L.A. were fairly relaxed. We visited L.A. Live the first evening for food & entertainment. We sat outside at Wolfgang Puck for dinner, reveling in the 75 degree weather we were experiencing at 8 o’clock at night…it was after all, pouring rain and 50 in Seattle. The first full day consisted of a walk around the Fashion District and a visit to the Cooper Design Space to go through the spring tradeshow where buyers come to buy for next season. It made me want to own a boutique so I could go through and pick out all these wonderful items. We also stumbled upon the Alice + Olivia showroom by accident. Talk about a dream come true. I love that brand and being able to just browse for a moment was a dream come true. It got way too hot so we made our way back to the hotel to prepare for a model fitting and the first fashion show of our week. Stay tuned for a post dedicated to our evening event. LA Fashion Week – Brief Update

This will be short as I’m currently 35,000 feet in the air on my way to Chicago. Los Angeles fashion week with Lina Zeineddine and Bri Seeley was an absolute blast. I met so many new people in the fashion industry. It’s awesome to have the connections I have so that I’m able to be behind the scenes and experience what I experienced this week. Here’s a quick photo from the first night we attended. A street style blogger took my picture, I’m hoping it will be put up on his blog. It’s so fun to have people ask to take your picture out of all the people in the crowd. I have a ton of photos to upload when I get back to Seattle on Sunday. I witnessed some amazing collections and really felt inspired. I felt LA fashion week had some innovative moments that left a lasting impact on me. I hope I can take this inspiration back to my job as a graphic designer. Onto Chicago now, it’s going to be a 30-40 degree drop in temperature. Oh boy. This will be interesting.…
